Kindergarten - 2 Curriculum

 

The GWCRS Curriculum was written by the GWCRS faculty and staff and is reviewed yearly and changed as needed.  The GWCRS was the first Catholic elementary school in the diocese with its own written curriculum which is based on national standards and high academic expectations.

 

The GWCRS Science curriculum was recently reviewed.  The new Science curriculum focuses on hands-on science using the Foss and Delta Science kits in every grade – Kindergarten through Grade 8.  Science notebooks are incorporated throughout all grade levels. 

 

Teachers use a written, integrated curriculum that focuses primarily on Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics and Religion.  Basic concepts in Science and Social Studies are also taught beginning in kindergarten.

 

The Technology Plan, approved by the Rhode Island Department of Education, is a collaborative effort of the GWCRS Technology Committee, Administrators and Teachers. For detailed information click on the link below:

Music instruction, physical education, art and library skills are taught to students in grades K-2 once a week. Spanish is also introduced at this grade level.

 

A remedial reading teacher works once a week with students who have reading difficulties.
